Soon after the N.C. Cancer Hospital opened in August 2009, with the expanded space for cancer support resources and programs, she decided to participate in the first ever faculty/staff campaign at UNC Health Care.
As one of 43 donors who contributed more than $8400 to the N.C. Cancer Hospital during the campaign, Tina decided to honor her mother by making a gift to establish a special library collection for caregivers.
Tina says the decision was easy, “My mother is a strong woman, a caregiver to our family.” So it was natural to make a gift to help purchase resources to help many families, “and keep the spirit of way my mother lives her life.”
“I made a gift to establish this library and I am so pleased that I did. Each day as I come to work and see patients and families utilize this library collection, I see my mother’s work continue. Everything that she tried to teach me or my sisters is there,” she notes.
Tina gives back to patients every day in her work, but sees this gift as special, “Giving back is part of who I am. I can see the rewards daily, I know that it is being utilized well. I think that there are wonderful opportunities throughout UNC where people can make a contribution and make it as beneficial as it has been to me.”
