On Thursday, February 12, 2015, UNC Lineberger and the Greensboro Area Health Education Center (AHEC) will be hosting a conference that examines many issues associated with melanoma treatment. The conference is designed to give attendees a multidisciplinary view of the melanoma patient and the care that should be provided to improve their overall health. To help attendees improve their abilities to diagnose and treat melanoma cancers, the following information will be focused upon heavily: the clinical dilemmas facing both dermatologists and dermatopathologists in correctly diagnosing difficult melanocytic lesions including non-traditional anatomic locations, the surgical issues facing the dermatologist and surgeon treating melanoma and aggressive cutaneous malignancies, the tanning bed controversy as viewed by an Australian epidemiologis, and the current role of systemic therapy in the melanoma patient with metastatic disease, including updated information on CTLA-4 inhibitors, BRAF-inhibitors and MEK inhibitors.
