Relay For Life of UNC is sponsoring Color Run 5K on Saturday, Oct. 1, to benefit the American Cancer Society. The race will take place on UNC’s campus, beginning and finishing at the Old Well.

Join UNC Lineberger at the N.C. Cancer Hospital on Thursday, Oct. 6, at the Tony Williams Lobby in the N.C. Cancer Hospital for the 2016 UNC Oncology Excellence Award Ceremony. The Oncology Excellence Awards are given in memory of Charmayne Gray, an oncology nurse practitioner at the N.C. Cancer Hospital who passed away in 2002. Awards will be given for oncology nursing as well as oncology service. Nominations are now open.

The UNC Division of Pediatric Hematology Oncology is proud to present the 7th Annual Pedal for Peds Bike Ride. The event will be held Saturday, Oct. 8, at UNC's Cary Wellness Center. Ride 7, 10 or up to 50 miles on the beautiful American Tobacco Trail. Participants are welcome to ride all or part of the route. 100 percent of all proceeds raised by this event will be used to support our mission to care for and cure all children with cancer and blood disorders in the state of North Carolina.

Primary care providers are seeing an increasing number of cancer survivors in their practices. They are more likely than oncologists to manage chronic pain, address psychosocial concerns and refer appropriately to hospice. However, general medical training in cancer primarily focuses on the acute phase in the inpatient setting. This year’s conference will present evidence-based approaches primary care providers can incorporate into their practice to ensure that patients living with advanced cancer receive the high quality care they deserve.
