- Research Study Group - Career Planning IDP Workshop
|When||Mar 28, 2017 from 03:00 PM to 04:30 PM (EST / UTC-400)|
|Add event to calendar||iCal|
Join us for a professional development session tailored to postdoctoral trainees from the Lineberger Training Grant (ITCMS) on Tuesday, March 28th from 3-5pm (Marsico 5004). Based on informal polling, it appears that career interests for this group are primarily in academia and industry (e.g., start-ups, Big Pharma, CROs). Accordingly, the workshop will focus on these two career paths.
This interactive workshop in a small group setting will provide feedback on career goals, professional skill development, and training plans, segueing into applications/job materials. Join fellow postdocs looking for similar positions to gain valuable peer-feedback and talk about career challenges as well as sharing solutions during guided exercises to enhance your career planning.
Please register and bring the following to prepare for the workshop (for use during in-class personalized exercises):
1) Bring one job description you typical of those you might be interested in (academic examples: Chronicle.com; industry examples: Indeed.com; or feel free to use other sources such as professional organizations, listservs, etc.).
2) Bring a recent copy of your CV.
3) Bring a completed IDP if you have one (either formal or informal; or prepare a list of a few goals regarding your career development if you don't have one).
(Please note that this workshop uses the job description, CV, and IDP to assist as planning tools rather than focusing on editing materials specifically; however, please feel free to sign up for one-on-one assistance with career planning and/or job materials in addition, should you be interested in doing so with Dr. Patrick Brandt or Dr. Rebekah Layton.)
