Director’s Career Symposium

In addition to a full afternoon of career talks, we are offering concurrent breakout sessions with each invited speaker for trainees who are interested in learning more about a particular career path. If you are interested in a more in-depth discussion with one of the speakers please select that breakout session when registering. Snacks will be served at the breakout sessions.

David Kashatus, PhD, Assistant Professor, Department of Microbiology, Immunology and Cancer Biology, University of Virginia
Dr. Kashatus leads an active research program at UVA focused on understanding the role of mitochondrial dynamics in tumor physiology. In addition, he directly mentors several graduate students, undergraduates, and postdocs and he is heavily involved in graduate and medical school teaching. Dr. Kashatus received a bachelor’s degree from Princeton University and then did his PhD research in the lab of Al Baldwin at UNC, studying the role of IκB family member Bcl-3 in tumorigenesis. He completed his postdoctoral research with Dr. Chris Counter at Duke University, where he studied the role of Ras and Ral GTPases in tumor growth.
Anna Burkart Sadusky, PhD, Director of Regulatory Science and Policy, American Association for Cancer Research (AACR)
Dr. Sadusky’s role at the AACR is to lead the organization’s efforts to facilitate scientific and regulatory exchange among various stakeholders to develop and deliver safer and more effective cancer treatments to patients. Prior to joining the AACR, she worked as a scientist and senior scientist for the biotech company Omeros Corporation. Dr. Sadusky received her undergraduate degree in Biology from Johns Hopkins University, followed by her PhD in Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, and Cell Biology from Northwestern University. She completed postdoctoral fellowships at the University of Washington and the NIH in Bethesda, MD, and has earned a Certificate in Biomedical Regulatory Affairs from the University of Washington.
Cindy Benod, PhD, Scientist, Warp Drive Bio.
Dr. Benod’s role at Warp Drive Bio is to evaluate innovative technologies that will be implemented within the screening cascade of the company. Previously, Dr. Benod held several consulting positions that allowed her to transition from academia to industry. Dr. Benod completed her postdoctoral training at the University of San Francisco, CA (UCSF) in the FletterickLab working on ligand identification for Orphan Nuclear Receptors. She holds a PhD degree in Pharmaceutical Sciences and a master’s degree in Physical Chemistry, both obtained at the University of Montpellier, France.
