She uses her statistical expertise to help with study designs, grant submissions, protocol development, analysis of data, and presentation of results in abstracts, posters, and manuscripts.
"I was always good at math growing up and wanted to find an area where I could use those skills in an interesting career. In college I learned about the consulting opportunities with statistics, and after seeing my dad and a college friend suffer from cancer, I thought it would be great if one day I could find a job that involved cancer research," explains Allison.
"I didn't know it at the time, but coming to UNC for graduate school was the way to get there. After five years of working at the Cancer Center, I still learn new things every day, and I love the fact that I'm contributing to research that will improve the care and lives of cancer patients - something I know someone did years ago to help my dad and friend."
Allison loves to travel (she most recently spent two weeks in France), always has a Do It Yourself project in the works, and can't cheer enough for her favorite college basketball team - the UNC Tar Heels.
