Delma acts as the point person and advocate for patients undergoing breast cancer treatment and follow up. "I work with patients from the time they are diagnosed, until they are discharged from follow-up," said Delma.

She also serves as a contact person for access to physicians and other departments at UNC, and helps with referrals in local communities. "I help to educate patients about management of treatment side effects, and disease process," she said.

Delma has worked at UNC in several different roles for over 20 years. For the past 12 years, she has been involved with the Breast Cancer program.

"I like the way the multidisciplinary team works as a unit, in developing and communicating treatment plans for patients," she said. "There is consistency and thoughtful attention to what best care for each patient will be. I feel privileged to be part of this terrific team of doctors, nurses, nursing assistants, research associates, students, program administrators, scheduling and reception staff."

Delma's creative outlets are cooking, spending time with grandchildren, sewing, knitting, and crafting. "Quilting is my latest obsession, but I am a really slow quilter (too many other fun things to do, too)!"
