Meet Jim McGowan
"I work with patients and families who are being treated for lymphoma, and work hard to help this difficult time go as smoothly as possible," said Jim. "I try to educate them about their disease, help them have a clear understanding of what to expect from their treatment, and work with them to help minimize any difficulties they might have along the way."
Jim graduated from the UNC School of Nursing, so UNC has always held a special place in his heart. He came to UNC after working in the community with advanced HIV/AIDS patients, where he helped people who had experienced difficulty with their medical care and treatment regimens. So, he's no stranger to helping patients successfully navigate through difficult treatments.
"Coming to the N.C. Cancer Hospital was more of a calling than just a professional opportunity," he said.
When not at work Jim spends a great deal of time doing things with his family. "I have coached my son's baseball and basketball teams. I enjoy working in my yard, cooking, camping, hiking, and playing games with my wife and son."
