Area of Interest

My clinical practice is general surgical oncology with specific interests in the areas of surgical treatments for breast cancer, melanoma and endocrine malignancies.

I have had multiple laboratory experiences in cancer research.  I am presently a Co-Investigator with Melissa Troester, PhD for the Normal Breast Study.  The "Normal Breast Study"  aims to better  understand the biology of  normal tissue adjacent to breast tumors and how it changes with age. The  findings could help identify treatment strategies and explain why some breast  conservation surgeries, particularly among young women, more commonly result in  disease recurrence.  My research interests also include understanding and eliminating disparities in cancer care for minorities and underserved populations. Specifically, I am interested in studying three areas of disparity in cancer care - communication issues between physicians and minority patients; barriers to enrolling minorities and underserved in clinical trials for cancer; and the dissemination and availability of state of the art and standard of care procedures for cancer care in minority and underserved populations.
