Area of Interest
The psychology of medical decision making is my primary area of research. A major focus of my work is decision making about HPV vaccine and other vaccines. Recent studies include parents of adolescent girls and boys, adult men, and adults in Africa.
I have worked for 15 years on the problems of how to assess risk and benefit beliefs and how to communicate risk information. Recent work includes communicating about genomic test results and about cancer screening tests. I presently sit on the FDA’s Risk Communication Advisory Committee and co-edited the FDA’s book on risk and benefit communication, Communicating Risks and Benefits: An Evidence-Based User's Guide.
