Hats with Heart

Almost 50 hats have been entered in the First Annual "Hats with Heart" contest sponsored by the UNC Lineberger Oncology Patient and Family Resource Center and the Women's Health Information Center. Each hat is unique. a labor of love by UNC employees, family and friends in support of people dealing with cancer related hair loss. Fabrics and yarns in a rainbow of colors and textures have been used to create each handmade entry.

The "Healing Hats" program, which started in the Fall 2002, with the support of a UNC Hospitals' Volunteer Services Special Grant, provides hand-made hats at no charge to cancer patients experiencing hair loss. The project goal is to have these hats available in all treatment areas of the NC Clinical Cancer Center to bring warmth and dignity to the head and to the heart.

A hand-made hat is such a special way of saying, "someone is thinking of you"... The hats will be on display in the NC Women's Hospital lobby from October 6 - October 13. Please stop by and vote for your favorite! Winners will be announced on Friday, October 15 in the NC Clinical Cancer Center, Gravely Building, Ground Floor. Special thanks to our community sponsors: Mouzetta Zumwalt-Weathers (Celgene), Whole Foods of Chapel Hill, and Talbots (Eastgate)
