NCI Honors UNC Lineberger Scientists

CHAPEL HILL, NC - A team of population scientists from UNC Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center was honored by the National Cancer Institute at a recent summit on Eliminating Cancer Health Disparities Through Science, Training and Community.

Receiving a third-place national award was a poster by Cathy Melvin, Ph.D., MPH;  Alexis Moore, MPH;  Katya Roytburd, MPH and Liz Harden, MPH. The poster described their work on “Increasing Early Detection of Colorectal Cancer: Enhancing Communication and Systems to Increase Screening.” Their project, currently underway in High Point, involves partnering with community health agencies to increase colon cancer screening among African-Americans and uninsured individuals.
