Coach Roy Williams’ 7th annual Fast Break Against Cancer raised more than $210,000 for cancer research and treatment at UNC Lineberger and in our community.

Coach Williams introduced ESPN anchor and commentator and UNC alumnus Stuart Scott. Scott kicked off his remarks with a tribute to his first broadcasting role model – Woody Durham, who emceed the event. He then shared his experience with cancer, talking about his bond with his family, with other cancer survivors, and with those who care enough to raise funds for research and treatment.

UNC Lineberger director Shelley Earp followed up with a thank you to Coach Williams and Woody Durham, all of the supporters and donors who have made such a difference at UNC through Fast Break and other community events.

Former UNC basketball greats Vince Carter, Tyler Hansborough and Eric Montross were among those who attended.

Alumni Mortgage and Quicken Loans’ generous donation of two sets of tickets – plus a surprise donation of an additional pair by Coach Roy Williams, sends three sets of die-hard Tar Heel fans to San Diego to experience the 2011 Quicken Loans Carrier Classic on November 11, 2011, raising $99,400 in a live auction.

Special thanks to presenting sponsor Atlantic Packaging and to all of our generous sponsors.
