CHAPEL HILL, NC – The American College of Radiology has designated UNC’s Breast Imaging Center a Center of Excellence.

Peer-review evaluations, conducted in each breast imaging modality by expert board-certified physicians and medical physicists, have determined that UNC’s facility has achieved high practice standards in image quality, personnel qualifications, facility equipment, quality control procedures, and quality assurance programs.

The breast imaging services at UNC are fully accredited in mammography, stereotactic breast biopsy, breast ultrasound and ultrasound-guided breast biopsy.

Cherie Kuzmiak, DO, chief of UNC Breast Imaging said, “We are honored by this designation. What it means for patients is a commitment to and providing world-class care to our patients with outstanding personnel and use of state-of-the-art equipment.”

The ACR is a national organization serving more than 32,000 diagnostic/interventional radiologists, radiation oncologists, nuclear medicine physicians, and medical physicists with programs for focusing on the practice of medical imaging and radiation oncology, as well as the delivery of comprehensive health care services.
