He is shown with Dr. Amy Abernethy from Duke University who was crowned Woman of the Year.

John is a 10-year non-Hodgkin lymphoma alumnus and was treated at UNC in the Gravely Building.  John says, “The award honors the entire staff and patients at UNC who made it all possible.”

John explains that he gave the award to his dad on Father’s Day, the day after he received it. “I gave it to my father for he has always been my Man of Year by his love and example of caring.”
