UNC Lineberger is joining with Mia Hamm and the Hamm Foundation today to participate in Giving Tuesday, the National Day of Giving.

For one day only, the Mia Hamm Foundation has pledged to match every dollar given online to the Garrett J. Hamm Memorial Fund up to $5,000. Money raised with support bone marrow transplant patients – right here at UNC Lineberger – and their families who experience the burden of long-term cancer care.

Hamm, who is known across the globe for her success on the soccer pitch – her teams have won two World Cup Championships, two Olympic gold medals, and four NCAA championships at UNC, understands first-hand the challenges bone marrow transplant patients and their families may face.

When her brother Garrett passed away from complications related to a rare bone marrow disease in 1997, Hamm focused the passion she and her brother shared for soccer on helping bone marrow transplant patients and their families.
