Richard Stevens has strong ties to the University of North Carolina. He earned his undergraduate degree as well as a law degree and a master’s in public administration from UNC. He has served the University as chair of its Board of Trustees, General Alumni Association, Foundation and Endowment Board. He is a recipient of the General Alumni Association’s Distinguished Service Medal.
Stevens served five terms in the North Carolina General Assembly as the Senator for the 17th district. In 2012, he joined the Raleigh law firm Smith Anderson. Richard and his wife, Jere, have served on the Board of Visitors since 2012.
UNC graduate Jean Kitchin has a rich history of service to the University and the cancer center. She served on the UNC Board of Trustees for eight years including terms as secretary and vice chair. Jean is also a former chair of the UNC General Alumni Association. She was awarded the General Alumni Association’s Distinguished Service Medal in 2007.
Kitchin, president and CEO of Almand’s Drug stores in Rocky Mount, is also the host of “Tar Heel People," a public affairs show on five N.C. television stations. At least once a year, she and her camera crew come to UNC Lineberger to interview physicians and researchers about the latest advancements coming out of UNC labs and clinics. Jean and her husband, Hodge, have served on the Board of Visitors since 2008.
