UNC Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center’s Donald Rosenstein, MD, was elected president of the American Psychosocial Oncology Society, the only inter-disciplinary professional organization in the United States dedicated to psychosocial cancer care, education and research.

Rosenstein is director of the UNC Comprehensive Cancer Support Program and professor of psychiatry at the UNC School of Medicine. In addition to his clinical work, he conducts research focused on the interface of medicine and psychiatry.

He is the co-author, with Justin Yopp, PhD, of the upcoming book, “The Group: Seven Widowed Fathers Reimagine Life,” which chronicles the challenges and triumphs of seven men who raised young children after their wives died. For four years, the fathers took part in an innovative support group that the authors led at the N.C. Cancer Hospital. The men encouraged each other through setbacks and celebrated successes as they learned to parent on their own and embrace life anew.
