Aziz Sancar, MD, PhD, was awarded the 2015 Nobel Prize in Chemistry. A Chapel Hill resident since 1982, Dr. Sancar has been honored with a key to the city of Chapel Hill by Mayor Mark Kleinschmidt and the town council.
Aziz Sancar, MD, PhD, who will go to Sweden in two weeks to accept the Nobel Prize in Chemistry, was awarded a key to the city of Chapel Hill while being recognized by Chapel Hill Mayor Mark Kleinschmidt and the town council in a ceremony Monday at Town Hall.
Sancar, the Sarah Graham Kenan Professor of Biochemistry and Biophysics at the UNC-Chapel Hill School of Medicine, has been a Chapel Hill resident since arriving at UNC as an associate professor in 1982. Read more about his Nobel Prize and his most recent work at the UNC School of Medicine.
At the gathering, Sancar said, “I have lived in Chapel Hill longer than my hometown where I was born, and I consider myself a true Chapel Hillian.”
