UNC Hospitals is once again nationally ranked in cancer, taking the 32nd spot in the country in a U.S. News & World Report ranking of over 900 hospitals across the country. The latest ranking is up from 38th in 2014 and 43rd in 2013.

The N.C. Cancer Hospital, the state’s only public cancer hospital, is the flagship site for UNC Cancer Care and the clinical home of UNC Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center.

The N.C. Cancer Hospital has yet again been recognized as a top hospital for cancer care in the nation, according to the U.S. News & World Report 2015–16 listing of Best Hospitals. UNC is ranked 32nd in the country for its cancer care.

Overall, 10 specialties at UNC Hospitals were recognized as nationally ranked or high performing by U.S. News & World Report in its annual “America’s Best Hospitals” issue. In addition to cancer, UNC Hospitals is nationally ranked in Ear, Nose & Throat (no. 18), Gynecology (no. 25), Pulmonology (no. 34) and Urology (no. 49) and high-performing (representing the top 25 percent of hospitals in their specialty nationally) in:

  • Diabetes & Endocrinology
  • Gastroenterology & GI Surgery
  • Geriatrics
  • Nephrology
  • Neurology & Neurosurgery

U.S. News & World Report analyzes data from nearly 5,000 hospitals along with the results from surveys of more than 140,000 physicians to rank the best centers in 16 adult specialties from cancer to urology. Death rates, patient safety and hospital reputation are a few of the many factors considered. Only 137 hospitals are nationally ranked in a specialty.
