Jenny Ting, PhD, William Rand Kenan Professor in UNC’s Department of Microbiology and Immunology and member of the UNC Lineberger, ranks second in the nation in National Institutes of Health (NIH) research funding in the field of microbiology.

Jenny Ting, PhD, has been a national leader in immunology research for years. That leadership role has been confirmed by a recent analysis of federal research funding. The Blue Ridge Institute for Medical Research (BRIM), an independent non-profit organization, ranked Dr. Ting second in the nation in National Institutes of Health (NIH) grant funding in microbiology research in 2014. BRIM obtained their data from the NIH Research Portfolio Online Reporting Tool.

Dr. Ting is the William Rand Kenan Professor of Microbiology and Immunology, founding Director of the Center for Translational Immunology, Co-Director of the Inflammatory Disease Institute, immunology program leader at UNC Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center, and Director of the NIH funded Center for Translational Research and Center for Immune-mediated Viral Control and the former co-director of the Southeast Regional Centers of Excellence for Biodefense and Emerging Infectious Disease. She is a member of the Board of Scientific Council for the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, one of the 27 Institutes and Centers of the National Institutes of Health. She was awarded the American Association of Immunologist’s Life Technologies Meritorious Career Award for 2013.
