Breakfast Seminar: Bette Caan, Senior Research Scientist, Kaiser Permanente

April 10, 2018 @ 7:45 am - 9:00 am

Dr. Caan will present evidence of the obesity paradox in cancer and how it may vary by cancer, stage, sex and treatment. She will discuss methodological concerns about the obesity paradox and how they don’t fully explain the observed relationship between BMI and cancer survival. Lastly, we will talk about how BMI may not be adequate to capture the body composition components of import, especially muscle and the role of muscle in explaining the obesity paradox. This talk will end by discussing research gaps.

The Cancer Outcomes Research Program Breakfast Seminar Series is organized by Drs. Ethan Basch, Stephanie Wheeler, and Matthew Nielsen. Please arrive at 7:45am to join us for a hot breakfast buffet prior to the start of our 8:00am meeting. Parking is available at the Rams Head parking deck next door; we will give you vouchers to park for free.
