Access to large amounts of digital data derived from electronic health records has been a goal of clinical and health services research for decades, but has been slow to come to realization. Over the past 8 years, both PCORI and the CTSA consortium have focused a great deal on accelerating what had been a slow process. I’ll discuss my view of current status and future prospects.
