A chaplain is available at the N.C. Basnight Cancer Hospital 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Regardless of religious background or spiritual practice, patients are empowered to take action and use their faith for their own recovery and improved quality of life. Many find that their spiritual life may be strengthened and deepened, and a sense of meaning, purpose and connection can be found during a time of pain and turmoil.

Sacred space is available in the N.C. Basnight Cancer Hospital for prayer, meditation and pastoral counseling, including a small reflection/meditation room and a simple, beautiful chapel. These spaces are always open to provide a place of peace and renewal for patients, visitors, and staff affected by cancer.

The Oncology Chaplain, Rev. Steven Chewning, can be reached at (984) 974-8621 Monday-Friday, 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. His office is located around the corner from the chapel and reflection room on the ground floor of the N.C. Basnight Cancer Hospital.

Chaplains are available for religious, spiritual, and emotional support 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. On week nights and throughout the weekend, an on-call chaplain can be reached by calling (984) 974-4021, paging (919) 123-3288, or calling the hospital operator at (984) 974-1000 and asking for the on-call chaplain.
