Health Coaching and Physical Activity

The Health Coaching and Physical Activity programs within the Comprehensive Cancer Support Program (CCSP) are designed to improve how cancer patients and survivors feel and function.

The CCSP offers many ways for patients and survivors to include physical activity in their daily life.

Our programs connect patients and survivors with staff who can meet physical, emotional, nutritional, social, and other needs along the cancer journey.

Coaching and physical activity programs are paired with remote technology, such as sensors and electronic surveys, so patients and survivors can provide information about how they are feeling and functioning from wherever they might live.

Exercise and physical activity are safe and helpful for most patients and survivors and can lessen fatigue, manage symptoms, improve wellness, and focus on quality of life.

Remote Exercise Instruction

Patients and survivors can workout from home with our Get Real and Heel and Yoga programs. Please contact Carly Bailey at carly_bailey@med.unc.edu to gain access. Sessions are held over Zoom video.

HealthScore

Conducting Care, Coaching to Better Health

HealthScore is the main health coaching program offered by the CCSP. The goal of HealthScore is to help patients and survivors thrive by working with them where they live to focus on function, access to resources, and overall wellness.

HealthScore achieves success if patients and survivors maintain physical function, have their unmet needs addressed, and are empowered and educated to become the major decision-makers in their care and survivorship. HealthScore is home-based, personal health coaching that includes physical, emotional, nutrition, social, and other supportive care. Health coaches help participants set wellness goals and address barriers to these goals. Special attention is given to using exercise and physical activity to improve quality of life and symptoms.
