Theresa Gilliam

A self-proclaimed "hometown girl," Theresa counts her blessings every day that she is able to live and work in Chapel Hill where she has close ties and deep roots. Her grandmother frequently reminded her that she is “...tar heel born and tar heel bred..."

Before becoming an occupational therapist, Theresa worked as a full-time production potter. She's currently in the process of setting up a new studio and can’t wait to get her hands back in the mud. Theresa is also crazy about dogs and is especially proud of her Welsh Springer Spaniel, Nettie, who is a Delta Society Certified Therapy Dog!

"I started at UNC as an OT/PT volunteer in the 1980s and worked with amazing mentors, including my brother Tom, who inspired me to become an occupational therapist. So returning to UNC to work in 2009 has been like coming full circle," says Theresa. "The people I serve here and the committed, compassionate folks I  work with continue to inspire me to stretch above and beyond my best every day. There's no place like home!"
