"I chose nursing because I wanted to have an impact on others," says Kim. "As a nursing student, I had the opportunity to spend a clinical rotation on an oncology unit and was immediately drawn to this challenging field."

After graduating from nursing school, she left the “snow belt” and moved to North Carolina. She worked in a small community hospital for a few years and then applied to UNC’s inpatient oncology unit. She has been at UNC ever since - that's 21 years!

"I enjoy coming to work every day because of the inspiration I receive from our oncology patients and the great team of professionals that I work with," says Kim. "The patients I interact with every day teach me hope and determination."

In her spare time, she and her husband (who is also an oncology nurse) stay busy keeping up with their two boys, ages 10 and 12, who play baseball and basketball. When not playing chauffeur, she's playing chase with the family's recently adopted  four-month-old puppy, Bella (a mix between an Australian Shepherd and a Weimaraner).
