History

Over the past three decades, the Tissue Culture Facility (TCF) has consistently strengthened and expanded its scope of services to become the most frequently used and comprehensive shared resource core in the UNC Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center . Because the TCF has maintained high standards, expanded its services and products, and been responsive to the needs of the Cancer Center, it enjoys a positive reputation among its users that has resulted in very high usage and support. The TCF also provides the operational and administrative supervision for the Glassware Washing Division, the Human Lymphocyte Immortalization Division, Molecular Biology Materials Support Division, and others, all Cancer Center shared resources, which provide logical extensions to the Tissue Culture Facility’s support services. Together, the combined shared resources offer incomparable cost-to-benefit value for UNC Lineberger members and to UNC researchers in general.

The TCF has a staff of fifteen full time permanent technical and administrative specialists under the direction of the Tissue Culture Facility Director, Steve Oglesbee. The TCF currently actively supports over 900 research groups. The facility was recently ranked by the NCI Icon indicating that a link will open an external site. through competitive renewal to be the top Facility in the country in terms of the comprehensive nature of services and materials provided compared to other similar facilities associated with large university medical research centers
