The symposium entitled, Patient-Centered Care: Meeting the Requirements for New or Existing Cancer Programs, will bring together nationally recognized experts on cancer care to discuss practical ideas to ensure that your cancer program is ready for the 2015 Commission on Cancer Patient-Centered Standards.

The presenters include two keynote speakers. UNC Women’s Basketball Coach Sylvia Hatchell will share her reflections as a coach, player and patient. Nancy Davenport-Ennis, CEO and founder of the Patient Advocate Foundation will discuss helping patients navigate financial barriers to cancer treatment. 

The symposium will be of interest to the full spectrum of health care providers and administrators who are devoted to improving the experience and outcome of patients and families facing a cancer diagnosis.

Topics include:

  • Understanding how the Commission on Cancer will evaluate the new patient-centered standards
  • Incorporation of the Electronic Health Record into the new patient-centered standards
  • Use of patient navigators for distress screening
  • Understanding available financial resources to improve access to care for patients and families

Payment

Payment of $75 (via cash, check, or credit card) for the symposium is due on site at the time of the conference or can be mailed to Mary King (see her contact info on the left).

Hotel Information

A block of rooms is being held at the Courtyard by Marriott Chapel Hill for conference attendees for October 9th and 10th. They are offering a group rate of $119 per evening. The Marriott is approximately one mile from the Rizzo Center, and shuttle service will be provided.
