Tim Poe, Director of Telehealth
Tim Poe was hired as the new Director of Telehealth in December of 2014. He has over 24 years of experience delivering technology in healthcare, educational, for-profit, and state network settings across North Carolina. Prior to joining the UNC Cancer Network, Tim was the IT Director for VIF International Education, focussing on the migration of core business services to a cloud-based infrastructure. Tim also worked across the North Carolina K-20 education community to develop shared technology infrastructure at MCNC, and managed the Digital Media Services group at Duke University.
Mary King, Operational Coordinator
Prior to Mary’s arrival to Chapel Hill in 2011, she worked for the President Pro Tempore of the NC Senate for 15 years, and served as Director of Legislative Research and Member Services. While at the NC Senate, Mary had the pleasure of working directly with all branches of government and constituents throughout NC and beyond. Mary studied Business Administration at Shaw University and is presently pursuing a degree in nursing. Currently, Mary is the Operations Coordinator for the UNC Cancer Network where she helps to ensure all day to day operations run smoothly within the UNC Cancer Network.
Max Gainer, AV Support Engineer
Max has provided audio visual support within the Telehealth team since August 2015. He has many years of experience providing audio visual support, beginning with his time as an undergraduate. While Max earned a BA in Psychology at UNC Wilmington, he also worked as an Audio/Visual Production Technician at the university. After graduating, Max pursued his interest in technology by earning a Database Specialist Certificate from Caldwell Community College in Boone, NC. During that time, he also earned a Network+ Certification through CompTIA. Following his time in Boone, Max worked as a Technology Support Technician at UNC Chapel Hill School of Medicine. There, he earned a Certified Technology Specialist (CTS) certification from Infocomm International. Max is currently an A/V Support Engineer for the UNC Cancer Network.
Kristen Sutherland, Interim Distance Education Coordinator
Kristen is a Medical Anthropologist with a BA in Anthropology from the University of Florida and an MA in Anthropology/Women's & Gender Studies from Brandeis University. Prior to becoming the Interim Distance Education Coordinator for the UNC Cancer Network, she worked for MassBay Community College in Wellesley Hills, MA where she was an Adjunct Professor of Anthropology and Sociology. Kristen was also a Visiting Lecturer for Cultural Anthropology at Framingham State University, served on MassBay's Institutional Review Board (IRB), and worked for the offices of Evening and Weekend Programming and the Center for Corporate Training and Community Education. Increasing access to affordable healthcare and improving patient quality of life are extremely important to Kristen; coordinating lectures for oncology professionals and individuals touched by cancer is incredibly rewarding and she hopes that each learning opportunity moves all of us closer to happier, healthier, cancer-free lives.
