Local teen raises funds for UNC Lineberger with “Monday after the Masters” golf tournament

High school senior Evan Norfleet organized a memorial golf tournament in memory of his grandfather, Dr. Edward A. Norfleet. Funds raised will go to UNC Lineberger to fund pancreatic cancer research.

High school senior Evan Norfleet loves golf – he’s been playing since the age of 9.  So when it came time for the Trinity High School student to choose a focus for his Senior Capstone project, a golf tournament was a natural fit. The namesake and beneficiary of the tournament also came naturally – Evan named the tournament in honor of his grandfather, Dr. Edward Norfleet, who passed away from pancreatic cancer in 2010. Proceeds generated by the event would benefit pancreatic cancer research at UNC Lineberger, where Dr. Norfleet was treated.
On Monday April 14 – the “Monday after The Masters” – Evan’s vision became a reality. More than 70 golfers gathered at Chapel Hill Country Club for a 10 a.m. shotgun start, and played 18 holes in memory of Dr. Norfleet. Additional support came from community sponsors, both individual and corporate, as well as from local businesses, who donated prizes.

With beautiful April weather, a great field of players, and support from friends and loved ones, The Dr. Edward A. Norfleet Memorial Golf Tournament was a great success.  The success comes to no surprise to anyone who knows Evan, the remarkable young man behind the tournament.  If you ask them, they would say it was simply par for the course.

A huge thanks to this amazing young man for his vision, hard work and passion in hosting such an amazing event!
