Susan G. Komen Triangle Race for the Cure 2025
CBCS proudly partnered with UNC Health again to share our excitement for breast cancer research, our deep appreciation of Susan G. Komen, and our admiration of the amazing survivors and athletes who showed up early on a Saturday morning to party, dance, and run/walk 5K to support breast cancer screening, treatment, and research.
CBCS Representation at the Native American Research Internship (NARI) Program
The University of Utah hosts a 10-week paid internship every summer to support Native American junior and senior undergraduates getting into health science research and rural health research. CBCS’s own, Joel Begay, an epidemiology doctoral student at the UNC Gillings School of Global Public Health and one mentored by CBCS co-Investigator Dr. Marc Emerson, is an alumnus of this program. Joel traveled to Utah in 2024 to share his experiences and to inspire the next generation.
Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center Receives $25 Million Gift for Triple-Negative Breast Cancer Research
Dr. Lisa Carey, a long-time partner of CBCS, has been named the director of a new research core in Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center, which was made possible by an incredibly generous, anonymous gift. CBCS was first to identify how triple-negative breast cancer disproportionately affect young Black women, and it is a wonderful development to see our epidemiological research lead to increased focus on this troublesome subtype of breast cancer.

Dr. Troester was profiled in the Winter 2021 volume of Caner Lines, the official publication of the UNC Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center. You can read it here.
2020 Komen Virtual MBC Impact Series
Komen organizations across the United States came together to host a six-part series of virtual events focusing on Metastatic Breast Cancer (MBC) between September 16 and November 10, 2020. North Carolina affiliates hosted half of them!
