A Center Ripe for Innovation

When a devastating breast cancer diagnosis changed the life of one patient, they responded with an unprecedented financial gift to change the landscape of this aggressive disease and in 2022, established the UNC Lineberger Center for Triple Negative Breast Cancer.

TNBC Center: Innovate, Eradicate, Celebrate.

The Center for Triple Negative Breast Cancer is a research-oriented program, and funding is designed to support projects and investigations aimed at transforming care for people with triple negative breast cancer (TNBC). Learn more about our research initiatives

As the most challenging type of breast cancer, TNBC casts a particularly ominous shadow in breast oncology. These tumors lack the three primary cellular targets present on other breast tumors, and used for therapy, lending the name “triple negative.”

With fewer treatment options than other breast cancers and a disproportionate impact on young women and women of color, the field of TNBC is ripe for innovation.

From improving biologic characterization of tumors, to developing novel or alternative treatment strategies, to providing specialized patient-support services, this $25 million gift has initiated new investigations, expanded knowledge around TNBC, and has provided the foundation to revolutionize patient-centered care.
