Biography
Dr. Yu completed his Diagnostic Radiology residency at Chung-Ang University in Seoul, South Korea. After completing his Vascular and Interventional Radiology fellowship at the University of North Carolina, he joined the faculty in 2010.
Dr. Yu’s primary clinical interests include transjugular intrahepatic portosystemic shunts (TIPS), transvenous obliteration of gastric varices, selective venous samplings, prostatic artery embolization (PAE), and interventional oncology, such as chemoembolization (TACE), radioembolization (TARE), and thermal ablation of liver malignancies.
His research interests lie in reducing PAE-associated radiation exposures, artificial intelligence in interventional radiology, adopting new embolic agents in managing hemorrhages and liver tumors, and exploring relationships between TIPS, sarcopenia, liver functions, and patient survival.
Dr. Yu is also a clinical physician at the UNC Center for Heart and Vascular Care.
Special Interests
- Interventional management of complications associated with portal hypertension, such as transjugular intrahepatic portosystemic shunt (TIPS), retrograde transvenous obliteration of gastric varices (RTO), and other various portal venous interventions;
- Prostatic artery embolization for benign prostatic hyperplasia;
- Interventional oncology, including transarterial chemoembolization (TACE), transarterial radioembolization (TARE), and thermal ablations of liver and soft tissue tumors;
- Selective venous sampling, including adrenal vein sampling and thyroid vein sampling.
