Biography

Dr. Tobben was thrilled to join the UNC musculoskeletal division and return to the home of his undergraduate alma mater following completion of musculoskeletal fellowship training at the University of Virginia (2019-2020) and residency training at Indiana University (2015-2019). Dr. Tobben has a passion for education and is the current musculoskeletal fellowship director after previously serving as associate fellowship director. His teaching interest extends to undergraduate medical education as he also serves as the course director for the medical student musculoskeletal imaging elective. He also acts as the lead career goal advisor for medical students applying to radiology. Dr. Tobben is involved in research and has presented projects at multiple national meetings. He is proficient in multimodality musculoskeletal diagnostic imaging as well as musculoskeletal diagnostic and therapeutic interventions. His specific interests include imaging of musculoskeletal pathology in high performance athletes as well as diagnosis and treatment of bone and soft tissue malignancies.
