Nurse Practitioner, Adolescent and Young Adult Program
Melissa brings with her years of experience caring for people with cancer in both the inpatient and outpatient setting, first as a staff nurse, then nurse navigator, and for the past five years, nurse practitioner. During that time, she has developed a passion for helping meet the unique needs of young adults whose lives have been interrupted by cancer.
In her role as AYA Nurse Practitioner, Melissa focuses on increasing enrollment of AYAs onto clinical trials, providing AYA Survivorship Care, and establishing an AYA multidisciplinary consult service. These efforts will greatly expand our ability to provide tailored medical care to our teen and young adult patients.
Melissa’s role is supported jointly by the Departments of Pediatrics and Internal Medicine. This collaborative effort reflects the energy and enthusiasm that the UNC oncology community has for providing exceptional care for AYAs.
