Area of interest

I am a medical oncologist and infectious diseases physician, and lived in Malawi with my family during 2012-2019, during which time I have been the only medical oncologist in a country of ~18 million people. I am PI for the Kamuzu Central Hospital Lymphoma Study, one of the first large clinical cohorts of lymphoproliferative disorders in sub-Saharan Africa. I am PI for the NIH U54 Malawi Cancer Consortium, a broad national effort focused on HIV-associated malignancies research in Malawi. I am PI for an NCI supplement award to help establish Malawi as a site for a planned Burkitt Lymphoma Trial Network. I co-chaired the NCI Global Health Working Group which advised the NCI Director and National Cancer Advisory Board regarding the NCI global portfolio. I am also the first Associate Chair for African International Sites for the NCI AIDS Malignancy Consortium (AMC). In this role, I have scientific oversight responsibility for AMC activities in sub-Saharan Africa, which is the only NCI cooperative clinical trials group currently implementing multicenter interventional studies for cancer treatment and prevention in the region.
