The UNC Lineberger Equity Council is pleased to announce a two-part series in response to the comments and suggestions heard during our Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Town Hall in October 2020.

This series will take place over the next three months and will be facilitated by Deborah Stroman, PhD, CLU, a diversity, equity and inclusion expert. The series will help expand our understanding and foster dialogue about the challenges and opportunities we face as we seek to promote diversity, equity and inclusion at UNC Lineberger and the N.C. Cancer Hospital.

Impact vs. Intention: The Importance of Collaboration When Dismantling Structural Racism

Part 1: Leveling Session

The Leveling Session (originally held December 18, 2020) offered an analysis and historical context of structural racism in the U.S. and the healthcare industry. This 90-minute session was held to spark curiosity and present a clear understanding of the individual and organizational challenges of racial healing and collaborative decision-making. In addition, the session addressed the importance of language and communication to foster understanding and belonging in an organization.

Part 2: Listening Session Series

January – February 2021

Following the Leveling Session, Dr. Stroman is facilitating a series of smaller, interactive listening sessions to dive deeper into diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts at UNC Lineberger and the NC Cancer Hospital. These 60-minute listening sessions will be tailored for specific groups and limited to 25 participants each. If the session you’d like to attend has closed or the timing does not work for you, we encourage you to register for the waitlist at go.unc.edu/ListeningSessionWaitlist and we will notify you if we’re able to schedule a second session.
