The Mechanistic and Interdisciplinary Training Program (MiBio) is hosting an all-day “Back to Basics” symposium on March 22, 2019 at the Carolina Inn. We will be hosting various exemplary, interdisciplinary researchers and trainees who demonstrate how exciting, innovative, and critical basic biological research is. We’re happy to announce that we will be hosting Dr. Henry Higgs from Dartmouth as our Keynote speaker! Dr. Higgs is an expert of the actin cytoskeleton, with a focus in ER-associated actin and the links between stress fibers and filopodia. Additional confirmed speakers include Kathrin Plath from UCLA (regulation of gene development during development and reprogramming), Karen Oegema from UCSD (cell division and embryonic development), David Parichy from UVA (pigment pattern formation, stem cells, and adult form), and David Sherwood from Duke (morphogenetic processes in development).
