2026 Cycle – Important Dates

LOI Deadline (for Pilot Awards): June 1, 2026 at 5 p.m.
Application Deadline (for all awards): July 6, 2026 at 5 p.m.

Changes

The funding opportunity guidelines and eligibility may have changed since prior funding cycles. Please review the guidelines closely before proceeding with your application. For any questions, please email lccc-dev-awards@office.unc.edu.

Submission Requirements

To be eligible for review, each applicant must complete the following:

  1. A non-binding Letter of Intent (LOI) may be required in order to submit your application. Please submit your LOI in the Foundant application portal by 5 p.m. on the deadline date.
  2. Submit Online: Submit your application through the Foundant portal. Submission must be completed by 5 p.m. on the deadline date.
  3. Applications missing one or more of the required components will be considered incomplete and will not be reviewed.
  4. Extensions of the deadline will not be granted, and supplementary or additional materials will not be accepted after the submission deadline.
  5. Former Awardees must submit progress report: If you have received a UNC Lineberger Developmental Award in the last 10 years (inclusive) you must include a progress report attached with your application before your new proposal will be reviewed. Report on: Title/year of funding; team; accomplishments (details of new external grants, publications, etc.); and UNC resources

Application

All applicants must register, submit their LOI and proposals on the application portal.

The application portal will be opened approximately two weeks ahead of each deadline. Both registration and submission must be completed by 5 p.m. on the LOI deadline date.

Additional Information

  • Study sections chaired by UNC Lineberger Associate Directors will review proposals.
  • Applicants are allowed to re-submit once. If your proposal is not funded, you may submit the same idea again (revised or not) one time. Reviewers will not necessarily know if you’ve submitted before and will not see the former review comments. This limitation in resubmissions is in the interest of stimulating innovation and limiting the burden on reviewers.
