William A. Wood, MD, associate professor in the UNC School of Medicine Division of Hematology/Oncology and UNC Lineberger, was recently appointed vice chair of the Alliance for Clinical Trials in Oncology’s Transplant and Cell Based Therapies Committee. He succeeds Thomas C. Shea, MD, the John William Pope Distinguished Professor in Cancer Research at UNC Lineberger and medical co-director of the UNC Bone Marrow Transplant and Cellular Therapy Program, who had served as the committee’s interim chair and vice chair for the previous 10 years.

The Alliance for Clinical Trials in Oncology is a National Cancer Institute-sponsored clinical trials network of nearly 10,000 cancer specialists at hospitals, medical centers, and community clinics across the United States and Canada.

The Alliance develops and conducts cancer clinical trials, develops optimal treatment and prevention strategies for cancer, and researches methods to alleviate side effects of cancer and cancer treatments.
