46th Annual UNC Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center Postdoctoral/Faculty Research Day

The 46th Annual UNC Lineberger Postdoc-Faculty Research Day will be held virtually on Thursday, October 7th. Our two keynote speakers (listed below) will be followed by selected postdoc talks and a poster session.

Gretchen Bentz, PhD, Mercer University

Dr. Bentz completed her PhD at Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center in Shreveport, Louisiana, where she studied the role of endothelial cells in the context of human cytomegalovirus infection. She then moved to North Carolina to conduct her postdoctoral training with Dr. Joe Pagano, elucidating the mechanisms by which an Epstein-Barr virus oncoprotein, LMP1, drives changes to the cellular proteome. In 2014, Dr. Bentz founded her independent laboratory at the Mercer University School of Medicine, where she continues to study LMP1-driven posttranslational modifications of cellular proteins.

Josh Mugford, PhD, Zentalis Pharmaceuticals

After obtaining his PhD in developmental genetics from Harvard University, where he studied the cellular and molecular processes involved in mammalian kidney formation, Dr. Mugford joined the Magnuson Laboratory at the University of North Carolina. There his postdoctoral research focused on escape from X chromosome inactivation (XCI) and implications of failed XCI. In his early career he worked to develop novel therapeutics based on epigenomic engineering as a member of the epigenetics group at Biogen, followed by several years as a senior principal scientist at Celgene and Bristol Myers Squibb.  Dr. Mugford now serves as the Associate Director of Discovery Biology at Zentalis Pharmaceuticals where he leads drug development teams to identify new drug targets and generate novel therapeutic molecules.
