Research Study Group – K99 Workshop

March 26, 2019 @ 3:00 pm - 5:00 pm

Pathway to Independence RSG

Planning on putting together a K99 application this year or in the future? Our next ITCMS research study group will focus on the K99/R00, the NIH’s Pathway to Independence Awards that aim to transition successful late-stage postdocs into faculty positions. Topics will cover application submission through starting a lab on R00 funding, and panelists have experience with NIH institutes most relevant to ITCMS trainees (the NCI and NIGMS). Our panelists will include a UNC postdoc who was recently awarded an NCI K99 in 2018 (Zhe Ma, Ph.D.), a UNC faculty member in the R00 phase of an NCI award (Hector Franco, Ph.D.), and a UNC faculty member who currently sits on study section for NIGMS K99 awards (J. Mauro Calabrese, Ph.D.).

The panel will be held on Tuesday March 26 from 3-5pm in Marsico 4004.

Come with your K99 questions: When is the right time to apply? What makes a good application? How does a transition award affect a job search?

There will also be snacks and beverages provided.
