Mark Peifer, PhD, a UNC Lineberger researcher and the Michael Hooker Distinguished Professor in the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill Biology Department, has been appointed to an advisory panel of the National Institute of Health’s National Institute of General Medical Sciences.

Peifer has been appointed to the National Advisory General Medical Sciences Council, an advisory body of NIH’s National Institute of General Medical Sciences.

The council is composed of leaders in the biological and medical sciences, education, health care and public affairs. Its members, who are appointed for four-year terms and meet three times each year, perform the second level of peer review for research and research training grant applications for the institute.

Council members also offer advice and recommendations on policy and program development, program implementation, evaluation and other matters of significance to the mission and goals of the institute.
