Your UNC Lineberger leukemia care team wants you to know what to expect during your upcoming treatment at the NC Cancer Hospital.

Patients being treated for leukemia at the NC Cancer Hospital will be seen by their personal Hematologist or Medical Oncologist who has developed expertise in managing blood and bone marrow cancers. This leukemia specialist will oversee the initial visit in the clinic and remain your physician throughout your treatment and follow-up care.

During the initial and subsequent visits, you will meet a team of providers from various disciplines who have also developed expertise in the care of blood and marrow cancers. These professionals include advanced practice providers (Physician Assistants and Nurse Practitioners), clinical pharmacists, and nurse navigators. Our team can work with referring providers to partner in your care, as many of our patients hail from communities outside of the Chapel Hill area.

As a NCI-designated Comprehensive Cancer Center, we firmly believe that research will improve care of leukemia patients. As such, you may also meet many of our outstanding research professionals such as research nurses, research assistants and clinical trial coordinators. While we appreciate that many of our patients choose to participate in research, but are happy to take care of you regardless of your decision about enrollment in research studies.

Finally, UNC is a teaching institution. You may meet medical students, residents and hematology-oncology fellows during your visits. These trainees can enhance the care that you receive, and in all cases are supervised by your leukemia specialist.

We are delighted that you have chosen us to care for you or your loved one.
