Dirk Dittmer, PhD, professor of microbiology and immunology, has been selected to serve as chair of the AIDS-Associated Opportunistic Infections and Cancer Study Section, for the Center for Scientific Review, a program of the National Institutes of Health.

He will serve a two-year term. Dr. Dittmer is a member of UNC Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center and co-director of the UNC Lineberger Global Oncology Program.

The Center for Scientific Review’s mission is to ensure that grant applications submitted to the NIH receive fair, independent, expert, and timely reviews—free from inappropriate influences—so NIH can fund the most promising research. Study section chairs oversee the review process for specific disease groups.
