HJ Kim, MD, associate professor in UNC’s division of surgical oncology and endocrinology, has been named as a member of the Society of Surgical Oncology’s (SSO) Executive Council.

The 18-member Executive Council serves as the governing body and board of directors for the society of surgeons and health care providers. Since it was founded in 1940 as the James Ewing Society, the SSO has worked toward advancing science and the treatment of cancer.

At UNC Lineberger, Dr. Kim’s clinical interests include surgical oncology, GI malignancies, pancreatic cancer, sarcomas, hepatobiliary malignancies, and surgical management of endocrine diseases.

The other new Executive Council members inducted were Nipun B. Merchant, MD, Vanderbilt University Medical Center; Christopher M. Pezzi, MD, Abington Memorial Hospital; and Kevin K. Roggin, MD, University of Chicago Hospitals.
