This year’s event honored the late Dr. Keith Amos, UNC Lineberger breast cancer surgeon who died unexpectedly in June 2013. The September 28th 2013, race raised $56,882 for 1in9, a charity that supports breast cancer patients at UNC Lineberger and Rex Cancer Centers.

Christine Brown, team organizer and member, explained, “Our team was founded to honor Keith’s life and advocacy because he was a big supporter of 1in9. He would have been the first person asking people to join or donate. His death left some big shoes to fill, and since I couldn’t be a surgeon or a dad, I wanted to champion something he cared about. I am so proud of the more than 100 people who made up our team and for the money we raised to help such a good local charity. It was a beautiful day for a great event. There were many tears shed as families came together to remember him, those that have died from breast cancer, and to celebrate with the survivors.” Christine is a regulatory assistant with the UNC Cancer Network.
