Ian Buchanan, MD, UNC Health Care’s vice president of cancer and children’s services, has been named to a state advisory committee that works to advise and educate government officials, other policy makers and the public to benefit cancer survivors, patients and their loved ones in North Carolina.

Ian Buchanan, MD, UNC Health Care’s vice president of cancer and children’s services, has been named to the N.C. Advisory Committee on Cancer Coordination and Control.

The committee’s mission is to help lower the incidence of cancer and cancer death in North Carolina, to build access to treatment and support, and to maximize the quality of life for all cancer survivors, patients and their loved ones in the state by advising and educating government officials, other policy makers and the public.

With the approval of his appointment by N.C. Gov. Pat McCrory, Buchanan becomes one of a 34-member committee that is also designed to include representatives from the Department of Health and Human Services, state legislators, and others.

Buchanan has served as Vice President for Cancer and Children’s services for UNC Health Care since April of 2013 and has been responsible for cancer services at UNC since December 2008. He completed both medical school and a master’s of public health degree at UNC-Chapel Hill.
