UNC Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center hosted the Kidney Cancer Association Patient and Survivor Conference at the William & Ida Friday Center for Continuing Education on Saturday, December 13, 2014. Attendees from New Jersey, Maryland, West Virginia, Virginia, South Carolina and North Carolina gathered to hear presentations on topics such as managing treatment, new therapies and navigating the health care system.
Michael Lawing, Kidney Cancer Association volunteer and patient advocate liaison said, “On behalf of the Kidney Cancer Association, I want to thank everyone at UNC Lineberger for putting forth such a great effort in the planning and execution of this event.”
Urologic oncologist Kimryn Rathmell, MD, PhD, associate director for education and training at UNC Lineberger was grateful to the Kidney Cancer Association for sponsoring the conference. “The live video cast of the meeting brought the content to a wider audience, so the impact of this meeting was even more widespread,” said Rathmell. “The opportunity to share information, stories, and hope between individuals and across many miles was very rewarding.”
